<h2>How to translate Russian web pages</h2>
As an example we will use the Voronezh Rotary Club web site.  <a href="http://www.rotary.vrn.ru/rotary.htm" target=_blank>Click to view the original page</a>. To me this is a solid mass of text that I cannot begin to understand.<ol>
<li>Go to the <a href="http://www.online-translator.com/default.asp?lang=en">PROMT Company Online Translator</a></li>
<li>Click on <b>'Text, Web, E-mail and WAP Free Translators'</b></li>
<li>Click on <b>'Web translation'</b></li>
<li>You are now at the main options page:<ul>
<li><b>Address:</b> enter the URL of the web page  <b>http://www.rotary.vrn.ru/rotary.htm</b></li>
<li><b>Direction:</b> from the drop-down box select Russian-English</li>
<li><b>Encoding:</b> leave this as Auto or choose from Unicode or Cyrillic</li>
<li><b>Autotranslate links:</b> if this box is selected (default) the site will translate as you browse links from the specified page</li>
<li>Click the <b>Translate!</b> button</i></ul></ol>
After a short pause the web page will be redisplayed in English. The result is surprisingly good. Any Rotarian will recognise the Objects of Rotary, the Four-way Test and much else that is familiar. Where the translation software does not recognise a word e.g. Rotariantsu (Russian for Rotarians .. I guess) it shows it highlighted.
